How to fix the Ascalon Arenas.
This is a quick guide on how to fix the Ascalon Arenas in 3 steps:
-No elites allowed
When players decide to Enter Game, run a quick check on their skill bar for
elite skills. If there are any, display: "You have unallowed skills equipped.
Please remove Elite Skills from your skill bar." If thre aren't any, "freeze" their
skill bar, so skills can't be changed on last second notice.
-No Green/Gold weapons, Green/Gold off-hand items allowed
Same thing, this time, check equipped items and weapon sets for Greens or
Gold items, and freeze the inventory so there can't be any last second
changes.
-No armour sets higher than Yak's Bend armour
Again, same thing, run a check on the equipped armour and armour pieces in
inventory, then check class and compare armour to Yak's Bend armour.
Check and freeze.
EDIT:
-Only Ascalon to Yak's Bend skills
If people get ran to Droknar's forge, they can get consume corps and
summon bone fiend for instance. This can make them overpowered too.
So, check for skills further than Yak's bend, and disable them.
Oh, and to those who think "it's fun to own after I went through all the trouble of getting my elite", think about all the people you scare out of PvP for good. Assholes.
That's what I think should happen to the Ascalon Arenas, because now there are little wankers going about beating fair players to pulp with their overpowered stuff they're not supposed to have. Sign or don't sign

I don't see why it matters. Why do people even play in the low-level arenas?

For new players, it looks like something new and interesting to try out.
For others, it is an easy way to farm faction at the expense of new players.

What they should do is something like the snowball arena. Give everyone that enters the same armor (armor related to your class that is) and health. And then give them standard weapons. Instead of having a Victo's axe, you will just have a plain unmodded axe that gives damage to whatever is the normal for that area. And then dont allow any Elites in there.

I don't know Posion arrow and Energy Denial in lower arenas is way to tempting to kill off.

Yeah. A day or so of laughs for people with the money/connections for both runs and capping games, at the expense of new players who may very well come away from the experience thinking, "Oh my God I died easy...I guess I'm not suited for this PvP thing after all."
Right. Get your sick fun elsewhere.

I agree with everything except the gold weapons, because you can still find low level rares, and why shouldn't they be allowed in the arenas?

Did the frog not express his dismay at Ascalon twinkies as well? I seem to remember he did, and say that it was not fair to be so overpowered against powerless others (or something). I suspect a fix is in the works.

Oy. More who do not understand the concept of the *ahem* Lower. Level. Arena.
Not everyone can get the max armor. Not everyone can afford max weapons. You’ve been playing this game for almost a year now, right? Everything seems easy to you. You forget what being a new player is like.

Are you for real?
How is it “punishing” people with max armor/weapons? Because they can’t get their jollies kicking noob azz all day without any real skill--just the money to get run/buy armor?
You have a very skewed view of punishment, if you believe creating an even playing field is considered punishment.

I don't think it should mess with weapons, but automatically setting people's armor to a median level for the duration of the match- that's a good idea in my book.
For the problem of elites, why not sort players by their skillbars? People with an elite on their bar go to Ascalon Arena (Elite), where they fight other people with elites. Everyone else just goes to Ascalon Arena. The nice thing about this is that you wouldn't be permanently restricted from either- take the elite off and you can fight in the normal arena (which might have more players active). Maybe after 10 wins, an Ascalon Arena team would move to the Elites?
